10 Must-Have Travel Apps

For the largest part of my travels I only had access to my phone, so everything that I needed, from booking a hostel to buying a flight ticket, translating a sentence and checking a location, had to be done with the phone. There are some Apps that can help you in many ways when exploring the world, and I put down a list of the 10 Must-Have Travel Apps.

secret flying, must-have travel app to get cheap flights

Secret Flying: By far the best app to find cheap plane tickets. You can select the locations you are interested in, and you receive a notification every time there is a cheap flight to or from that destination. I scored some incredible deals here. But be warned: you’ll go crazy as every time you get a notification for a super cheap flight you’ll want to book it!

skyscanner, must-have app to book flights

Skyscanner: Any flight I book, I search it through Skyscanner (except for a few remote flights in the South Pacific). It is the most complete platform for comparing flight ticket prices, and you can score some cheap airfares here. Check this article to know how to get cheap flights.

maps.me, must-have travel app to move around

Maps.me: The number one app for offline navigation. Every traveller you’ll meet is probably using Maps.me. Download the offline maps for a region or a country and it will save your ass when you get lost and don’t have any internet connection.

google translate app logo

Google Translate: It makes my travels so much easier and nicer. Especially in the remote countries, where no one speaks English. You can even have a direct translated conversation, which incredibly helped me in Siberia and China.

booking.com app logo

Booking.com: I book most of my hotels and hostels here. They have a free cancellation policy and after you book a bunch of trips you’ll be upgraded to Genius level 1 or 2 and get some extra discounts. Plus check the “invite a new friend” deal: You get a 20$ voucher for you and your friend and if you play smart (and a little dirty…) you can have new emails set up and score some free accommodations 😉

Hostelword app logo

Hostelword: Great layout and design. It is the best app for choosing hostels, very easy to use and check reviews and pictures. However prices are slightly higher than the competitors, so what I do is: check hostels on Hostelword and then look on booking.com if they offer the same room at a cheaper price (and it is the case most of the times).

Lightrooom app logo

Lightroom: If you want your travel photos to look stunning on Instagram, check out this app. It offers some great editing options on the free package.

tricount app logo

Tricount: Super useful app to write down expenses if you are travelling with one or more friends. it will help you to keep track of the costs and automatically split the expenses based on who paid what.

voyageX, must-have travel app to keep track of the countries you visit

VoyageX: Do you like to keep track of every country you visit? Then use this app. A lot of people use Been but I personally don’t like it because it mixes up countries and territories, giving a wrong overview.

Mark O'Travel, must-have travel app to thick countries off the list

Mark O’Travel: Similar to VoyageX, but you can use it to combine countries and territories. I personally use VoyageX to mark the countries and Mark O’Travel to keep track of all the rest, territories and regions. Check it out!

I hope you will find my 10 Must-Have Travel Apps useful to better plan and enjoy your next trips! If you’ve got any other interesting travel app suggest it in the comment section below!
