Nevis Swing in Queenstown, New Zealand

Think of 2 mountains and a large canyon in between. Think of a 300 metre-arc and a 70 metre freefall. Think of you tied up to a rope swinging at 75 miles per hour across the canyon. That’s the Nevis Swing in Queenstown, New Zealand!

Welcome to the Nevis Swing, the biggest swing in the world, in Queenstown, New Zealand!

I’m sure most of you already heard of this swing, probably saw some videos on Facebook or YouTube, or friends have told you about it! And if you haven’t, you’ll get to know about it as soon as you land in New Zealand! All hostels and tourist shops have flyers of the Nevis Swing! Plus most of the backpackers you meet did it or have friends who did it. And they all will tell you it is amazing!

How to book it?

You can check the Nevis Swing official website and purchase your ticket there. However I suggest you to get your ticket from one of the many tourist agencies. If you are a good negotiator or if you buy some other trips as well, you can get a discounted price!

Swing, Bungy and Catapult

In the same canyon there are also a bungee jumping and a catapult! I chose the Swing coz it has the name to be the biggest swing in the world and I already did Bungee Jumping in Copenhagen. But I saw the other 2 activities there and they looked sick too! If you are a true adrenaline seeker and have a bit of cash to spend you can go all in and do them all! You even get a package discount as it is just one company that owns all the 3 activities!

My friend is on the suspended bridge to reach the launching spot for the Nevis Swing.

We reach the spot. Get all geared up and ready to go! Standing on the platform at 134 metres and just hanging to a rope makes me thinking why the hell did I decide to do that! But we are set to jump! The guys working there are cool and know how to make you feel even more worried than you already are 😀 ! That’s their job I reckon, to create a bit of extra suspense (as if it was needed) !

3..2..1.. and we fall!

Video in slow motion.

If you look at the video of me falling in the beginning, you see I twisted on the side. That’s coz the rope wasn’ t tied up enough. But that’s all good! A bit more adrenaline never killed nobody right?
